Understanding Super DM-i Technology

At the heart of the Sealion 6 DM-i is BYD's Super DM-i technology, which is designed to enhance the performance, efficiency, and overall driving experience of the vehicle. The Super DM-i system operates by integrating a 1.5-liter Atkinson cycle normally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine with a powerful electric motor. This combination allows the Sealion 6 DM-i to produce a total output of 197 Ps and 325 Nm of torque through the front wheels. Such a configuration enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a claimed 8.3 seconds.

The vehicle is equipped with an 18.3 kWh Blade Battery that delivers an all-electric range of approximately 105 kilometers. The Blade Battery can be recharged using a Type 2 AC charger, and with the included 7-kW home box charger, can fully go from 0 to 100% in about three hours.

The Sealion 6 DM-i offers multiple driving modes to suit different driving conditions and preferences. The DM-i Mode optimizes the use of both the engine and electric motor to extend the vehicle's range and maximize efficiency. In EV Mode, the vehicle operates solely on electric power, delivering a quiet and luxurious driving experience free of emissions.

One of the key advantages of the Super DM-i technology is its ability to significantly reduce fuel consumption. With a 60-liter fuel tank and the Sealion 6 DM-i’s regenerative capabilities, the total driving range can extend beyond 1,100 kilometers. This versatility makes the Sealion 6 DM-i an ideal choice for urban driving as well as longer trips.

To introduce the capabilities of the Sealion 6 DM-i, BYD Philippines enlisted the help of brothers Louis and Georges Ramirez (of the acclaimed Ramirez racing clan) to push the car to the limits of its range. With the supervision of the Automobile Association of the Philippines, the Ramirezes planned a Northern Luzon loop through Tuguegarao on a full charge and a sealed, full tank of fuel to test the Sealion’s maximum range. They completed the loop from BGC and back with approximately 245 kilometers of range left. Impressed with the vehicle’s performance, they took it out the next day for a BGC to Subic loop to fully maximize the range, clocking an impressive 1,608 kilometers in total.

Advanced features and technology

The vehicle is equipped with a state-of-the-art intelligent driver cockpit that includes a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The Sealion 6 DM-i also comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, which allows the vehicle to act as a power source for external devices. This feature is particularly useful for outdoor activities or emergencies, providing additional utility beyond traditional driving functions. The vehicle's safety features are comprehensive, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system, among others. These technologies ensure that drivers and passengers are protected at all times, enhancing overall road safety.

Expanding EV infrastructure

A crucial aspect of promoting electric vehicles is the development of adequate charging infrastructure. ACMobility and BYD Cars Philippines are committed to supporting the transition to electric mobility by expanding the network of EV charging stations across the country. Currently, the network includes 70 EV charging stations in 31 locations. By the end of 2024, the aim is to have over 100 locations nationwide, online, and ready to serve the growing number of electric vehicle users. This expansion is essential to alleviate range anxiety and make electric vehicles a viable option for more Filipinos.
