Goosebumps as Canadian chanteuse Celine Dion trended worldwide following her stunning performance during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on July 26 (July 27 Manila time).

Celine, 56, made a triumphant return to the music scene when she performed the 1949 Edith Piaf classic "Hymne A' L'Amour" (Hymn to Love) at the Eiffel Tower, a popular landmark in Paris.

Filipino music fans would be more familiar with the English version of this French song entitled "If You Love Me (Really Love Me)" performed by American singer Brenda Lee in 1963.

Brenda's version did not chart in the US, but the song was very popular in Manila at that time.

Reports indicate that Piaf wrote the lyrics while Marguerite Angèle Monnot composed the music for the song. It was written for Marguerite's lover, Marcel Cerdan, a French boxer who tragically died in a plane crash while on a trip to visit her.

Here's the English lyrics to the song courtesy of azlyrics.com as sung by Brenda Lee:

"If You Love Me (Really Love Me)"

If the sun should tumble from the sky,
If the sea should suddenly run dry,
If you love me, really love me,
Let it happen. I won't care.

If it seems that everything is lost
I will smile and never count the cost.
If you love me, really love me,
Let it happen. Darling, I won't care.

Shall I catch a shooting star?
Shall I bring it where you are?
If you want me to I will.

You can set me any task.
I'll do anything you ask.
If you'll only say you love me still.

When at last our life on earth is through
I will share eternity with you.
If you love me, really love me,
Let it happen. I won't care.

If you love me really love me,
Let it happen. Darling, I won't care.
