Police Major Ellendie Rebusquillo, Isabela police chief, said the victim was drunk and allegedly challenging his relatives into a fight.

Carpio’s relatives sought the assistance of barangay watchmen to pacify him.

Two watchmen responded and the victim allegedly acted more violently and attempted to hack one of them.

One of them drew a gun and shot the victim in the chest. Carpio died in the spot.

Rebusquillo said the suspect fled with the firearm.

Police said the victim would usually harass his relatives and would cause alarm and scandal whenever he is drunk.

He was summoned many times to the barangay because of his behavior but he did not attend.

Rebusquillo said that watchmen are not authorized to possess firearms. He said that they will reach out to barangay watchmen in the town to reiterate the law prohibiting them from carrying guns.

Homicide charges will be filed against the suspect who had already sent surrender feelers to the police.
