The offices of House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Tingog Party-list have made significant progress in their relief efforts for Metro Manila flood victims in the aftermath of Typhoon "Carina".

On late Thursday afternoon, July 25, Romualdez led the distribution of food packs to 3,000 evacuees and their families who were displaced by the recent flooding in Navotas City.

This was on the same day that the House leader conducted an ocular inspection of the damaged Tangos-Tanza Navigational Gate and Pumping Station.

“Hatid ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. ang tulong sa mga nasalanta ng kalamidad. Nandito kami para ipadama, ilapit at ipaabot sa mga mamamayan ang serbisyo ng pamahalaan,” said Romualdez who delivered the relief in partnership with the Tingog Party-list and Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

(The administration of Pangulong Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has sent this assistance to the victims of the calamity. We are here to make you feel the government’s efforts and bring it closer to you.)

A total of 1,000 relief packs from DSWD as facilitated by the offices of the Speaker and Tingog Party-list have already been forwarded to the evacuees.

The remaining 2,000 Puregold relief packs from Speaker Romualdez and Tingog were scheduled to be delivered Friday, July 26 in coordination with local government officials.

Meanwhile, a total of 10,000 Marikina residents and their families who were evacuated at the height of the floods caused by Carina and the southwest monsoon (Habagat) are set to receive P5,000 each in financial aid next week under the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

At the same time, 10,000 relief packs from the Speaker's office and Tingog Party-list will be given to flood victims in coordination with the office of Marikina City 2nd district Rep. Stella Quimbo.

News reports indicate that Marikina recorded the highest number of evacuees at 31,128, which is more than the nearly 29,000 people evacuated in 2009 during Typhoon "Ondoy".

The Speaker's office and Tingog initially distributed on July 24 hot meals to residents of Barangays Malanday and Jesus Dela Peña in Marikina.

Tingog Party-list's two nominees in the House of Representatives are Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre.

Metro Manila, including Marikina City, has been placed under a state of calamity because of the heavy rains recorded the past three days.
