Except in areas where it would not be possible, President Marcos has directed the Department of Education (DepEd) to make sure that the opening of School Year 2024-2025 on Monday, July 29, will push through despite the damages left by Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon in different parts of the country.

In an interview in San Mateo, Rizal, on Friday, July 26, the President said schools should open on Monday as much as possible.

"Gawin niyo lahat. Ang pagpasok, gawin niyo hangga't maaari, kung kaya niyo buksan. Hangga't maaari (Do everything. Open the schools if you can. As much as possible), open the schools and conduct classes. But there are areas na hindi talaga pwede (where this is impossible)," he told DepEd which is now headed by former senator Sonny Angara.

"If the school buildings are a condition to take classes, they will do it," he added.

President Marcos said some schools might have to be resourceful but he allowed them to decide if they could really open the schools to students on Monday or not.

"It will be up to the school to decide what they— kung kaya o hindi (if they can do it or not). Siguro yung iba mapipilitan (Some might be forced), they will conduct classes outside of the school building, makapagklase lang (just to conduct classes)," he said.

The President recognized the plight the schools might face because of the recent typhoon.

"Meron pa talaga na kakaunti na lang ang may tubig pero marami na nag-iwan ng putik na hindi magamit (There are some areas where there's not as much floodwater but there are plenty that could not be used due to amount of mud)," he said.

"Tapos may mga nasira na gamit (Some of their supplies were also damaged), we'll have to replace them," he added.
