PAGASA issues final flood advisory as La Mesa Dam water level stabilizes

The water level at La Mesa Dam in Quezon City dropped below its spilling threshold of 80.15 meters, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to lift its flood warning on Friday, July 26.

As of 8 a.m., the dam’s water level was down to 79.79 meters.

It overflowed after breaching the 80.15-meter mark on Wednesday, July 24 due, to incessant rains brought about by the southwest monsoon (habagat) enhanced by typhoon Carina (Gaemi).

PAGASA said light rains in the watershed area are expected over the next 24 hours, but it is not anticipated to significantly impact the dam’s water levels.

In light of this development, PAGASA said water flow from La Mesa Dam is no longer expected to affect low-lying areas along the Tullahan River.

This includes areas in Quezon City, such as Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria, and San Bartolome, as well as parts of Malabon and Valenzuela.

PAGASA has declared this its final general advisory for the current rainfall event unless significant rains occur again.
