In a circular, His Eminence called on the more than 90 parishes and mission stations in the archdiocese to support the fund raising drive by conducting a second collection in all masses on Saturday evening, July 27, and the whole of Sunday, July 28.

The Archdiocese of Manila has jurisdiction over the parishes in the cities of Manila, Pasay, Makati, Mandaluyong, and San Juan.

“The fund raising drive will be held as we offer our prayers and sacrifices for the victims of typhoon Carina which dumped heavy rains triggering floods on Wednesday,” the Church leader said.

The typhoon induced “habagat” that caused the torrential rains left at least 22 people dead from flooding and landslides and displaced over 600,000, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

“My heart and prayers go out to all those affected by the heavy rain and flooding,” the cardinal said as he expressed his gratitude to the churches, homes and other institutions who opened their doors to the affected families. He likewise cited the donation drive being conducted by church groups, schools, hospitals, private companies, and other institutions.

“The solidarity among Christians is deeply felt in times like these, May we request our priests, consecrated men and women, and lay leaders to continue extending the compassion of the Lord Jesus to the victims, the poor, the hungry, and all those in need,” Cardinal Advincula said.
