LPA east of Mindanao may not develop into tropical cyclone in next 24 hours — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday, July 26 said the low pressure area (LPA) inside the country’s area of responsibility has a “low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.”

The LPA was located 980 kilometers east of Mindanao and has no direct effect yet on any part of the country as of 8 a.m.

PAGASA said it will continue to monitor this weather disturbance for possible changes in the forecast as it remains over the Philippine Sea.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the southwest monsoon (habagat), enhanced by severe tropical storm Gaemi (formerly Carina), may continue to bring heavy to intense monsoon rains to Ilocos Region, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands.

Occasional moderate to heavy monsoon rains may also persist in Bataan, Zambales, Pampanga, and Benguet, while scattered moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected to affect Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

The habagat could also bring isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to the Visayas.

Meanwhile, Mindanao will have isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides across the country.
