DepEd: Enrollment for SY 2024-2025 reaches 18 million


There are over 18 million learners currently enrolled for the School Year (SY) 2024-2025, based on data released by the Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday, July 26.

In the Enrollment Monitoring Report for SY 2024-2025 by the Planning Service – Education Management Information System, the number of enrollees in formal and non-formal education has reached 18,370,310.

The latest data from DepEd showed there are 16,005,291 students enrolled in public schools and 2,149,361 learners in private schools.

Enrollment in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education has a total of 22,940.

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) currently has 192,718 enrollees.

DepEd data showed the Elementary Level has the highest number of enrollments across all sectors at 10,001,698. Of these, 9,317,613 elementary learners were enrolled in public schools; 681,610 in private schools; and 2,466 in SUCs/LUCs.

Junior High School (JHS) or Grades 7 to 10 has a total enrollment of 5,577,374. Of this number, 4,866,674 are enrolled in public schools, 698,393 in private schools, and 12,307 in SUCs/LUCs.

Senior High School (SHS) or Grades 11 and 12 has a total enrollment of 2,598,529, with 1,821,004 students in public schools, 769,358 in private schools, and 8,167 in SUCs/LUCs.

Across regions, DepEd data show that Calabarzon has the highest number of enrollees with 2,811,458, followed by Central Luzon with 2,151,764, and the National Capital Region with 1,960,210.

School opening adjustments

Due to the impacts of Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat), which caused widespread flooding in many areas, DepEd has announced adjustments to the school opening in public schools scheduled for July 29.

DepEd confirmed that 738 public schools will not be able to proceed with the school opening next week due to damages sustained to infrastructure and other education resources.

DepEd said the 738 schools mentioned will "postpone their openings" on July 29 for "clean-up and rehabilitation activities."

Meanwhile, DepEd clarified that "flood-free schools with minimal damage will open as scheduled to avoid disrupting the education of our young learners."

In a press briefing earlier, Education Secretary Sonny Angara said that DepEd cannot postpone the school opening in all schools nationwide because "learning loss is very real."

“Gusto man ng iba ng (some people might want) ‘wholesale’ postponement but we cannot do it,” Angara said, noting that the Philippines is among the countries with the most number of lost school days.
