Weather to gradually improve as ‘Carina’ exits Philippine area of responsibility

Typhoon “Carina” (international name: Gaemi) left the country’s area of responsibility on Thursday morning, July 25, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Based on the PAGASA's bulletin at 11 a.m., Carina was last located 515 kilometers north-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes.

It has further weakened since traversing the rugged terrain of Taiwan. It has maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 215 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted over Batanes.

PAGASA said the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” enhanced by Carina, may bring “strong to gale-force” gusts to parts of Luzon.

Heavy to intense rains due to the habagat may persist in Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Benguet, while moderate to heavy rains may affect Pampanga, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, Abra, and Bataan in the next few hours.

PAGASA said Zambales, Bataan, and Benguet may still experience moderate to heavy rains until Saturday, July 27.

Other areas affected by Carina and the southwest monsoon may see gradual improvement in weather conditions by Thursday.
