The Situation Report from DepEd indicated that nine regions reported damage to their schools. These regions include the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.

DepEd reported that 90 schools have sustained damage due to "Carina" and the "habagat." The total estimated cost for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the damaged school infrastructure is P630 million, according to DepEd.

Meanwhile, DepEd said six regions have reported that some of their schools are being used as temporary shelters for affected families. The regions with schools used as evacuation centers include CAR, NCR, Region I, Region III, Region IV-A, and Region VI.

DepEd noted that there are 324 schools currently being used as evacuation centers.

In a memorandum issued by Education Secretary Sonny Angara, DepEd reminded local government units (LGUs) to use classrooms as a last resort for evacuation.

Angara emphasized that schools should be used as briefly as possible, ideally for no more than 15 days, to ensure that learning is not disrupted.
