PRO 4-A Director Police Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas said that Carina as of 9 a.m. on Thursday affected 16,554 families composed of 54,148 individuals in the region.

“These evacuees were housed in more than 189 evacuation centers set up by the local government. The typhoon left a trail of destruction, damaging homes, and infrastructure, and disrupting the lives of many, including members of the police force,” Lucas said.

The provision of assistance to policemen was part of the “Damayang may Malasakit sa Kapulisan” program of Philippine National Police chief Police Gen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil.

The program emphasizes the importance of supporting our police officers, who are considered family, in times of need before extending help to others, Lucas added.

The financial assistance aims to offer immediate relief to  affected officers and enable them to begin the process of recovery and rebuilding after the severe impact of Carina.

Lucas highlighted the significance of solidarity and empathy within the police force.

He said that lawmen are more than colleagues. “They are family and we should always be there to help in times of need and ensure their safety and welfare.”
