Marcos conducts ocular inspection in Valenzuela

President Marcos on Thursday, July 25, conducted an ocular inspection in Valenzuela City to assess the impact of Super Typhoon Carina and the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat.

The President rode a truck that passed by the floods as it rained along McArthur Highway in Barangay Malanday on Thursday morning.

Before this, Marcos visited the city's command center where he reiterated his order to the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) and the local government unit (LGU) to warn citizens when they would release water from dams.

"Yun ang bilin ko, eh, dahil ang daming naging biktima d'yan last time (That's my order because many became victims of it last time)," he said.

"May weakness tayo doon sa communication. Kapag magbubukas ng dam, pag-aapaw, kailangan yung downstream communities alam nila (Communication has become our weak spot. When you open the dams— if they would spill— the downstream communities need to be informed)," he added.

Valenzuela City remains one of the cities still submerged in floodwaters after La Mesa Dam overflowed on Wednesday, July 24, with floodwater reported to reach chest-deep in some areas.

As of 8 p.m. on Wednesday, the local government of Valenzuela reported that an estimated 4,839 families or 18,868 individuals sought refuge in 68 evacuation sites. However, some evacuation sites had to be vacated due to flooding.
