Int'l community sympathizes with 'Carina' victims


Foreign envoys have expressed sympathies with the Filipino people after Super Typhoon Carina battered Luzon.

The ambassadors of the United States, China, Japan, Israel, Canada, Romania, Germany, United Kingdom, and Australia sent their message to the Filipino people.

US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson said the US embassy team is now working closely with Philippine government agencies and is already providing assistance.

"My thoughts and prayers are with all #FriendsPartnersAllies affected by the flooding and other severe effects caused by #CarinaPH," she said in a post on X.

Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian said his heart goes to "all our Filipino friends" affected by Typhoon Carina.

"Our sincere sympathy goes to those who have lost their loved ones in the floods.  Stand ready to provide help and get through this trying time together. Stay safe!" he said in a Facebook post.

Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya encouraged the public to "hold on together in these tough times" as he said his thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones and those enduring hardships.

"We express our heartfelt sympathies to the Filipino people affected by the onslaught of the southwest monsoon, or 'habagat,' which was intensified by Typhoon Carina," Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss said.

"The Canadian Embassy expresses its concern and sympathies to those individuals and communities impacted by #CarinaPH," added Canadian envoy David Hartman, who said the embassy team is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to support as needed.

Romanian Ambassador Raduta Matache said she is sharing her deep concern for the significant damage brought about by Carina in large areas of Luzon.

"Germany stands ready to support our Filipino friends in coping with this tragic situation," German Ambassador Andread Pffafernoschke said.

"The UK Embassy in the Philippines continues to monitor the situation closely, in partnership with the Philippine government and partners," British Ambassador Laure Beaufils said.

"The embassy continues to monitor the situation and is keeping contact with Philippine government and partners. Australia is prepared to respond if requested," added Australian envoy HK Yu.
