Flooding forces big banks to temporarily close some branches

Widespread flooding, triggered by Typhoon Carina and exacerbated by the southwest monsoon, led to the closure and shortened operating hours of major financial institutions on Thursday, July 25.

In a series of advisories, BDO Unibank, Land Bank of the Philippines, Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), and Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) informed their clients about the temporary closure of several branches due to flooding.

On Thursday, BDO shut down a total of 89 branches, primarily in Metro Manila (74 branches), with 14 branches in Northern Luzon and one in Southern Luzon remaining closed.

Meanwhile, Land Bank was compelled to close 77 branches in Luzon, including 28 in Metro Manila, 44 in Southern Luzon, and an additional five branches in North and Northeast Luzon.

Moreover, Land Bank adjusted their banking hours in other Luzon areas, with operations ceasing at 12NN.

Likewise, BPI closed 33 branches, including 23 branches in Northern Luzon and 10 in Metro Manila.

Furthermore, Metrobank reported the temporary closure of 65 branches as of 9:00 AM, predominantly impacting areas in Luzon and Metro Manila.

However, despite the temporary closures of the branches, BDO, Land Bank, BPI, and Metrobank assured customers that other services like ATMs, mobile banking, and online banking would remain available.
