In the aftermath of typhoon "Carina" onslaught, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) advised the public on Thursday, July 25, to contact the nationwide hotlines managed by the Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) for any possible emergency assistance.

The DILG made this call as the typhoon enhanced “Habagat’’ caused severe damage to Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog, Central Luzon and nearby areas due to massive flooding leading to several reported deaths.

However, the DILG warned unscrupulous individuals that prank calls lead to legal consequences, reminding them to stay responsible as every call counts to ensure public safety.

“Your cooperation ensures efficient and swift responses, keeping our communities safe,’’ the DILG said.

The public are advised to visit the DILG and BFP websites to connect with the “hotlines’’ of their intended government agencies for assistance.

On Wednesday, July 24, the National Capital Region (NCR) was placed under a state of calamity due to the widespread flooding caused by the combined effects of the Super Typhoon and enhanced southwest monsoon (Habagat).

While Super Typhoon Carina has exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the DILG noted that the “Habagat’’ continues to bring heavy rains.

With Metro Manila under a state of emergency, the DILG stated that the government can use its quick response funds for immediate relief and rescue operations in many of the 16 cities and one municipality that comprise Metro Manila.

Additionally, the DILG disclosed that a 60-day price freeze on the basic necessities in Metro Manila is now in effect as ordered by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
