'Deadpool & Wolverine' debuts at No. 1 in South Korea

The superhero film “Deadpool & Wolverine” opened at No. 1 in cinemas in South Korea on July 24. 

“Deadpool & Wolverine” stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman visited South Korea to promote the film before its release. 

According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), which tracks box office receipts,  “Deadpool & Wolverine” debuted at No. 1 at the box office, drawing 230,135 moviegoers and earning $1.7 million on opening day.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” dominated the Korean box office on July 24, earning 56 percent of the total daily gross for all films. 

The movie surpassed the opening numbers in South Korea of another Marvel Studios film, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3,” which had 163,314 moviegoers on the first day of release last year. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” went on to attract 4.2 million moviegoers in South Korea, Korean media reported. 

“Deadpool & Wolverine” also scored the highest opening for films released in South Korea in the past three months from May to July. 

Placing second at the daily Korean box office on July 24 is “Despicable Me 4,” which had 73,346 in total admissions and gross of $479,354, or a revenue share of 16 percent.
