Cavite under state of calamity due to impact of 'Carina'

CAVITE – The province has been placed under a state of calamity on Wednesday, July 24, due to the impact of the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina.

During a virtual special session, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan authorized Gov. Jonvic Remulla to utilize P10 million from the quick response fund of the 2024 provincial disaster risk reduction and management fund to respond to the calamity.

As of 4:00 p.m. on July 24, a total of 7,498 individuals from 16 local government units have been evacuated due to floods.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Emergency Operations Center received reports of four casualties as well as 24 partially damaged and five totally damaged infrastructures.

The initial agricultural damage, meanwhile, was reported at P6.9 million, affecting the areas of Alfonso, General Trias City, Imus City, Naic, Silang, and Tanza.
