Carlos Yulo goes podium training ahead of Paris Olympics

Carlos Yulo got a first look of his rivals in the 2024 Paris Olympics following the men’s artistic gymnastics podium training on Wednesday, July 24, at the Bercy Arena.

The two-time world champion was part of the subdivision 2 that trained at 3 p.m. (Paris time) along with gymnasts from the Netherlands, China, Japan, Ukraine, Colombia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and host France.

Among the notable gymnasts that were part of the group were vault specialist Artur Davtyan, all-arounder Milad Karimi and two-time all-around world champion Hashimoto Daiki.

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) made observations on what can be considered as a “dress rehearsal” for the competitions and even noted some of the standouts including Yulo.

“Among the individuals, look out for Yulo, who looks in tremendous form,” FIG noted.

“Seemingly immune to the floor flu that affected some in the last subdivision, Yulo showed off his trademark form and power, including a front double full to immediate double front and 3.5 twist,” it added.

Yulo was considered as a darkhorse in the Games particularly in the floor exercise, where he won the 2019 world championship title. He was among the favorites to win in the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics in 2021, but fell in the qualifications.

The Paris Olympics is a redemption of sorts for Yulo, who is also tipped to make a run for their money in vault after finishing fourth in Tokyo.

Yulo opens his campaign in Paris in the qualification on Saturday, July 27.
