Two people die in Angeles City landslide, 2 others missing in Bataan—police
Two people, including a minor, died due to a landslide in Angeles City, the regional police force said on Wednesday, July 24, amid the heavy rains that also triggered widespread flooding in 71 barangays in Bulacan alone.
The report of two fatalities in Angeles City brought to seven the total number of deaths due to the onslaught of typhoon “Carina”—five of them were reported in Batangas, including a landslide that killed four people in Agoncillo town.
The regional police force also reported that there are two people reported missing in Bataan.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has yet to validate and confirm if the reported fatalities are typhoon-related.
Police Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo, director of the Central Luzon regional police, said a total of 528 families, composed of 1,509 individuals, were evacuated due to massive flooding in Bulacan, Bataan and Olongapo City.
“A total of 71 barangays are flooded in the province of Bulacan while seven roads also in Bulacan are impassable to vehicles,” said Hidalgo.
He said 33 individuals in Bataan and one in Angeles City were rescued.
Hidalgo said he already ordered all commanders in Central Luzon to implement previous measures that were observed including all guidelines under the PNP Critical Incident Management Operational Procedures (CIMOP) while the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 3 was also instructed to conduct forward deployment to readily respond to any eventuality brought by the typhoon.
A total of 474 personnel are deployed for response operations including those deployed in evacuation centers while 578 are on standby and ready on call for search, rescue and retrieval operations, and 466 comprise the Reactionary Standby Support Force.
Some provinces in Central Luzon have announced the suspension of classes and work due to severe weather conditions brought about by the intensified typhoon.
Hidalgo also said all policemen in the region were also instructed to assist in the distribution of relief packs to families
