Rizal malls turn into evacuation shelters amid heavy rains, flooding

Some SM Malls in Rizal Province have cut short their operating hours to 4 p.m. as they open their parking spaces for motorists and commuters who may be affected by flood or heavy rain.
SM City Masinag in Antipolo City and SM City San Mateo in San Mateo, Rizal both announced on their respective social media pages that mall hours on July 24, would be until 4 p.m. only as part of the malls’ safety measures.
Even though the two malls had closed early, its parking spaces and other allocated spaces will be open for motorists and the commuters who would be affected by the flood or heavy rain following the effect of Typhoon Carina.
Aside from SM Masinag and SM San Mateo, other SM Malls that offer shelter are SM Center Downtown Antipolo; and SM City Taytay in Taytay; and SM City San Mateo in San Mateo, have announced that the malls’ parking spaces will be opened today, July 24 for motorists seeking shelter from the stormy weather.
Free wifi, and charging stations for mobile phones and other gadgets are also offered by the malls to enable flood affected motorists and commuters to temporarily seek cover in the malls to escape from flood and heavy rains in the vicinity.
Both SM City Masinag and SM San Mateo however announced that its supermarket will remain open to serve as many customers until 9 p.m.
Robinsons Antipolo, located in Antipolo City has also opened its parking spaces for the flood affected motorists and commuters, with free use of wifi and charging stations.

The malls also announced that the overnight parking fee will be waived for the motorists.
