Philippine passport up to 73rd in global index, visa-free to 67 destinations

The Philippine passport has advanced to the 73rd position in the most recent global passport index, enabling its holders to visit 67 out of 227 destinations worldwide without a visa.

According to the latest Henley Passport Index released on Wednesday, July 24, the Philippines has moved up from the 78th position last year out of 199 passports.

This was the highest ranking for the Philippine passport since it held the 74th place in 2020.

The passport also ranked sixth among its Southeast Asian neighbors, up from seventh place last year.

On the other hand, the country’s ability to provide visa-free or visa-on-arrival access dropped to 67 out of 227 possible destinations, lower compared to 69 visa-free access previously.

The Henley Passport Index is “considered the most authoritative ranking of all the world's passports,” assessing the number of destinations accessible without a visa. Updated monthly, the report utilizes data from the International Air Transport Association with 199 passports and 227 destinations.

Meanwhile, the Singaporean passport has reclaimed its title as the most powerful passport in the world, providing access to 195 travel destinations out of 227 around the world visa-free.

France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Spain all shared the 2nd place, each with visa-free access to 192 destinations.

The unprecedented seven-nation cohort that includes Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden sits in third place, with access to 191 destinations without a prior visa.

The least powerful passports still belong to Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.
