Las Piñas, Parañaque, Pasay LGUs suspend classes, gov't works due to heavy rains

The local governments of Las Piñas, Parañaque, and Pasay suspended classes and works in government offices due to heavy rains brought about by the enhanced Habagat and Typhoon Carina on Wednesday, July 24.
Las Piñas City Mayor Imelda Aguilar ordered the suspension of classes in all levels of public and private schools in the city as per the recommendation of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) for the safety of everyone.
Aguilar said the DRRMO issued an advisory of flooded areas in the city and has already conducted preventive evacuation of residents affected by the typhoon.
She said Vice Mayor April Aguilar visited the residents that were evacuated by the DRRMO and distributed sleeping kits and other necessities.
As of 7:30 a.m. the DRRMO issued flood updates and identified Zapote Junction, Diego Cera Ave, Alabang-Zapote Road, and Marcos Alvarez as not passable to vehicles.
In Parañaque City, Mayor Eric Olivarez ordered the suspension of classes and work in the city and ordered offices delivering vital services to be on alert.
Olivarez said offices that provide vital services such as health and disaster and calamities response will remain open to continue their operations.
Offices such as the Parañaque Traffic and Management Office (TPMO); Special Operations and Communication Office; City Health Office; Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Ospital ng Parañaque 1 and II; Public Safety and Security Division, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) will be on standby for immediate response in case of emergencies.
In Pasay City, Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano also ordered the suspension of classes and work in government offices except for emergency response agencies.
Rubiano said suspension of work in private offices may depend on the discretion of their respective managements.
