The Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (FFCCCII) has expressed its support for the government's ban on Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO).
In a statement on Wednesday, July 24, Cecilio K. Pedro, FFCCCII president, stated that President Marcos' decision to ban POGO would enhance the country's international image and promote peace and order.
Pedro also said that the ban will contribute to strengthening bilateral relations between Manila and Beijing.
Since the Duterte administration, Beijing has been urging the Philippine government to outlaw online gaming operations that cater to foreign nationals, predominantly Chinese.
Last Monday, President Marcos heeded calls for a POGO ban and directed the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) to phase out the industry's operations by the end of last year.
“FFCCCII supports the decision of President Bongbong Marcos for a total ban on all POGOs by this year,” Pedro said.
“It is hoped that this will improve the Philippines' international public image, enhance peace and order, and help strengthen our country's bilateral relations with China, as the Chinese government has long requested a total ban on the controversial POGOs,” he added.
Pedro said that the POGO ban, along with de-escalating tensions in the West Philippine Sea, will lead to a brighter economic future for the Philippines.
“This is definitely the right direction towards a more positive growth for our Philippine economy in the years to come! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Cheers,” he concluded.
