BACOLOD CITY – A 40-year-old farmer was allegedly hacked to death by his drinking buddy in Sitio Trencera, Barangay San Benito, Calatrava, Negros Occidental on Monday, July 22.

The victim was identified as Roberto Pinile of Barangay San Benito.
Police Major Wilfredo Benoman Jr., Calatrava police chief, said that the victim and his three companions had a drinking session on Sunday night, July 21.
Benoman said that two of the victim’s drinking buddies went home first before dawn on Monday, July 22, and Pinile was left with the 60-year-old suspect.
A heated argument erupted between the victim and his elderly companion due to drunkenness.
The suspect hacked the victim in the head, slashed his neck, and stabbed him in the chest with a bolo.
The suspect fled on foot towards Barangay Bagonbon, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental where he was arrested on Monday.
Benoman said the suspect hid in his relative’s house because of fear. The suspect told the police that he had plans to surrender.
Murder charges were filed against the suspect on Wednesday, July 24.
