The 27-year-old guard who head coach Jeff Cariaso expects to make an immediate impact to the Bossing’s campaign, signed a two-year deal less than 24 hours after arriving in the country last Monday, July 22.

He already attended the Blackwater practice and met with Cariaso before signing the deal at the Blackwater office with his representatives Anton Brodett and Nadine Jamal of Phenom Basketball Clinic also in attendance.

No less than Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy, meanwhile, was present for the side of the Bossing.

With Barefield, Blackwater is expected to elevate its game from a doormat team in the last season into a potential playoff contender. For one, the Bossing highly-touted rookie is bringing in his experience playing overseas and in the NBA G-League.

Apart from Barefield, also signed to deals were fellow rookies DJ Mitchell and Miggy Corteza.

Mitchell, who was a one-and-done player for La Salle in the UAAP, was signed to a one-year contract by Blackwater after taking him as 26th overall pick in the draft.

He was projected to be an early second rounder in most mock drafts before sliding into the third round. He signed the deal with agent Marvin Espiritu accompanying him.

Corteza, who Blackwater acquired from Rain or Shine by sending a future second round pick, was also signed to a deal. The 6-foot-4 winger was with his agent AC Ong during the signing.

With other two rookies in harness, the Bossing also got the depth they badly needed to reinforce a core that featured sophomores Christian David and James Kwekuteye along with veterans Justin Chua, Troy Rosario, Rey Suerte and Jvee Casio.
