PLDT, Smart set to provide free calls, WiFi to typhoon victims
PLDT Inc. and its wireless unit Smart Communications said they are prepared to extend assistance to those who are faced with challenging conditions due to Typhoon Carina.
As of July 23, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is in effect in parts of Luzon, bringing strong winds and heavy rainfall.
"We are on standby to extend much needed assistance to those who are affected by Carina," said PLDT and Smart First Vice President and Group Corporate Communications Head Cathy Yang.
She added that “we are assessing the situation with our network and sales teams nationwide, and are ready to deploy #LibrengTawag, #LibrengCharging, and #LibrengWiFi (free calls, charging, and WiFi), as well as immediate relief aid to those who may need it.”
Rainfall and gusts are expected in many parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, as well as some areas in Visayas and Mindanao, as the typhoon is forecast to move north northwestward before exiting Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday.
