Navotas LGU suspends classes due to heavy rains


The Navotas City government suspended classes in all levels, public and private, on Tuesday, July 23, due to the yellow rainfall warning issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

City Mayor John Rey Tiangco announced that the suspension of classes was recommended by the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

“Batay sa rekomendasyon ng ating City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, #WalangPasok sa lahat ng antas pre-school to college, public at private, ngayong araw, 23 July 2024 (Based on the recommendation of our City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, classes are suspended in all levels, pre-school to college, both public and private, today, July 23, 2024),” he said in a Facebook post.

He added that the sea level is expected to rise by up to 2 meters at 11:58 a.m.

“Nasa ilalim po tayo ng Yellow Rainfall Warning ayon sa PAGASA at inaasahang magiging maulan ngayon dahil sa habagat na pinalakas ng Bagyong #CarinaPH. Tataas din po ang tubig-dagat ng hanggang 2 metro mamayang 11:58 a.m. (We are under a Yellow Rainfall Warning according to PAGASA, and heavy rain is expected today due to the southwest monsoon intensified by Typhoon #CarinaPH. The sea level is also expected to rise by up to 2 meters at 11:58 a.m.),” Tiangco added.

PAGASA issued flood bulletin no. 2 on Tuesday, July 23, stating that over the next 12 hours, moderate rains with occasional heavy rainfall are expected to persist in the following river basins and their tributaries, as well as in areas susceptible to flooding: Main Laguna de Bay; other tributaries draining towards the Laguna de Bay; Upper Marikina River (Rodriguez, Antipolo, San Mateo, Quezon City, Marikina); Lower Marikina River (Pasig, Mandaluyong); Pasig River (Pasig, Makati, Mandaluyong, Manila); Tullahan River (Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela); Mango River (Rodriguez); Nangka River (Marikina, San Mateo, Antipolo); and San Juan River (Quezon City, San Juan, Manila).

Residents living near waterways were advised to stay vigilant for potential flash floods.
