A total of 13 medals were won by the country's math aces in an international mathematics competition in Hong Kong held from July 19 to 22, the Mathematics Trainers' Guild Phils. (MTG) announced Monday, July 22.

The MTG, who trained the math wizards, bagged a total of three silver, four bronze, and six Excellence Award medals in the nine-nation World Math Fusion Olympiad (WMFO).
The WMFO drew several hundred onsite and online contestants from the Philippines, Hong Kong, USA, Australia, United Kingdom, Malaysia, Thailand, Macau and China.
MTG co-founder Dr. Simon Chua named the WMFO silver medalists as Jenelle Nyka Lee of Chiang Kai Shek College; Annette Tiffany Yu of St. John's Institute and Don Emmanuel dela Pena of First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities.
The bronze medal winners were Ethan Caleb Choy of Jubilee Christian Academy; Heal Job Esio of Pangasinan Universal Institute; Erin Leighton Go of St. Jude Catholic School and Kate Dominique Siaco of Singapore School Manila.
On the other hand, the Excellence medalists were Ethan Liam Go and Albert Steven Tan of St. Jude Catholic School; Ashton Grant Yang and Aethan Graye Yang of Jubilee Christian Academy; Bianca Jane Ong of St. John's Institute and Lucas Antoine Aldave of Ateneo de Manila High School.
MTG officers Renard Eric Chua and Arvie Ubarro led the delegation.
According to Chua, a total of 155 math aces will be representing the country in three competitions between July 26 and 31 -- the International Math Competition Singapore; Indian International Math Competition in Lucknow, northeastern India and Asian International Math Olympiad in South Korea.
The Philippine team had earlier garnered 2 silver and 3 bronze medals plus 2 trophies at the 24th Po Leung Kuk Primary Math World Contest that was also held in Hong Kong.
MTG-trained students also took home 4 gold, 20 silver, 24 bronze and 11 Merit medals from math contests in Vietnam and Indonesia.
