A 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Infanta River in Tondo, Manila, on Monday, July 22.
According to the Manila Police District (MPD), a witness saw the victim swimming in the river when a strong current swept him and pulled him under the water.
The boy's mother immediately reported the incident to the authorities.
Members of the Smokey Mountain Police Community Precinct (PCP) immediately conducted monitoring and area security while Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel held a search and rescue operation for the boy.
His body was recovered under the Infanta Bridge in Tondo at around 6:20 p.m.
The victim was rushed to the Tondo Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival at around 6:51 p.m.
