Marcos calls Biden a 'statesman' after dropping out of presidential race

President Marcos called US President Joseph Biden's decision to back out of his reelection bid a sign of a true statesman and thanked him for always supporting the Philippines.

Marcos said this after Biden dropped out of the presidential race against former US president Donald Trump and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrats' bet in the November polls.
In an X post, the President admired his American counterpart and wished him the best as he completed his term.
"President Biden's decision to withdraw from his candidacy is a demonstration of genuine statesmanship," Marcos wrote on Monday, July 22.
"We wish him well for the rest of his presidency and for all his future endeavors," he added.
Marcos thanked Biden for always backing the Philippines, especially amid regional tensions.
"We thank him for his constant and unwavering support for the Philippines in a delicate and difficult time," he said.
The two presidents met at least three times over the past three years. They first met in New York in September 2022 followed by a bilateral meeting in May 2023 in Washington, DC. They last met in April this year for a trilateral meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio in Washington, DC.
