DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos turned-over the 17-seater vans to Vice Mayor Menchie Abalos on behalf of Mayor Ben Abalos during the ceremony. DILG-NCR Director Maria Lourdes Agustin and other city government officials were also present during the event.
According to the vice mayor, the vehicles will be used by the Cultural Affairs and Tourism Department of Mandaluyong in the conduct of its Tourism Development and Sisterhood Cities programs.
In April, the DILG also distributed two 7-seater vans to the city government as incentives for its SGLG achievement.
The vehicles were then assigned to Mandaluyong's Department of Cultural Affairs, Tourism, and Sports Development.
Mandaluyong received its 7th SGLG award in December last year, making it one of the 22 LGUs in the country, and one of two local government units (LGUs) in the National Capital Region (NCR) that has consistently won the award.
Under the SGLG program, LGUs must pass the following governance areas: financial administration and sustainability; disaster preparedness; social protection and sensitivity; health compliance and responsiveness; sustainable education; business-friendliness and competitiveness; safety, peace and order; environmental management; tourism, heritage development, culture and arts and youth development.
In addition to getting this year’s SGLG marker, the LGU awardees are also eligible for the SGLG Incentive Fund to finance their local development initiatives in support of national goals and strategic thrusts.
