BanKo, the microfinance arm of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), has joined forces with agritech company Agrilever to launch a possible game-changing Agri NegosyoKo loan program. This initiative aims to uplift farmers and fortify agricultural communities by providing them with essential resources.

The heart of the program lies in BanKo’s customized loans, ranging from ₱50,000 to ₱300,000. These financial lifelines empower farmers to invest in their land, equipment, and productivity, but the Agri NegosyoKo Loan Program goes beyond mere financing.

Farmers participating in the program receive a comprehensive suite of benefits. Financial education equips them with the knowledge to manage their resources effectively. Protection and security shield them from unforeseen risks. Personal engagement and community involvement foster a sense of belonging and shared purpose. And a streamlined application process ensures that these vital resources reach those who need them most.

The program encourages responsible behavior. By rewarding prudent financial practices, it cultivates a culture of sustainability. But the Agri NegosyoKo Loan Program doesn’t stop there—it also opens the door to cutting-edge technology.

Agrilever, a Fil-Israeli firm, plays a pivotal role. Through digital agronomy services, market access, flexible financing, crop insurance, and weather systems, Agrilever empowers farmers. Their app guides planting schedules, optimal harvest times, and pesticide application. With this support, farmers can increase their yields and manage production costs efficiently.

Jojo Ocampo, BanKo chairman, said, "Going beyond financial aid, we also provide a platform for knowledge, innovation, and sustainable growth. We see farmers not as our clients. but as vital partners."

Rod Mabiasen, Jr., BanKo president, added, “The Philippines is an agricultural country, and to sustain and expand farming opportunities, we must support our farmers with programs that help them grow their businesses. The Agri NegosyoKo Loan Program introduces a comprehensive approach that underscores productivity, efficiency, and the economic well-being of farmers through strategic partnerships with cooperatives and aggregators, like Agrilever.”

The launch of the partnership was witnessed by functionaries from  BPI, BanKo, Agrilever, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, National Irrigation Authority, and Department of Agriculture, to wit:  BPI president and CEO TG Limcaoco, BanKo chairman Jojo Ocampo, BanKo president Rod Mabiasen, BSP deputy governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat,  Agrilever board chairman Yoav Schwalb, Agrilever Advisory Board chairman Arthur Yap,  Agrilever president Ruel Amparo,  NIA administrator Eduardo Guillen,  DA director Junibert De Sagun, BPI Institutional Banking head John-C Syquia, and BPI Capital president Junie Veloso.

BanKo’s commitment to micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) has earned recognition. The Change Maker Award at the 2024 Universal Achievement Awards celebrates their innovative approach. In 2023 alone, BanKo disbursed over P14.96 billion in business loans to more than 200,000 clients. Their reach expanded through new branch-lite units (BLUs) across the country, totaling 350 branches and BLUs.

As BanKo’s Agri NegosyoKo Loan Program takes root, it promises a brighter future for Filipino farmers. By combining financial support, education, and technology, this collaborative effort nurtures not only crops but also dreams. ([email protected])
