Brigada Eskwela kicks off in Muntinlupa


The Brigada Eskwela (National Schools Maintenance Week) was launched in Muntinlupa aiming to clean and repair school facilities. 

Muntinlupa Mayor Ruffy Biazon led the ceremonial kick-off of Brigada Eskwela 2024 in public schools including Pedro E. Diaz High School and Tunasan National High School on July 22. 

“Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide school maintenance program that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, efforts, and resources to ensure that public schools are all set in time for the opening of classes,” according to the Department of Education.

Under the program, “local communities, parents, alumni, civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations (NGOs), private individuals, and even teachers and learners volunteer their time and skills for the conduct of clean-ups, minor to medium repairs, and maintenance work in classrooms and within the school site.” 

Biazon emphasized the importance of working together to ensure the success of the opening of classes on July 29. 

“Sabi nga, it takes a village to raise a child. Para maisulong ang kapakanan ng kabataan, kinakailangang sama-sama tayong magtulungan (As they say, it takes a village to raise a child. To advance the welfare of the youth, we need to work together),” he said. 

The Brigada Eskwela 2024 in Muntinlupa kicked off in 29 public schools in Muntinlupa through the collaboration of Muntinlupa City government offices, Schools Division Office, Parents-Teachers Association, Muntinlupa Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines reservists, 1Munti Party, and the private sector.

The city government donated cleaning supplies, while the City Health Office conducted dengue prevention activities such as fogging and search-and-destroy operations. 

Various offices also contributed to cleaning, gardening, carpentry, painting, and other repairs on school premises.

Biazon also signed the Commitment Wall, pledging his support for Brigada Eskwela activities. ,

Meanwhile, the city government will distribute free school supplies and shoes to public school students before the start of classes.
