BACOLOD CITY – Three New People’s Army rebels surrendered to the Army 79th Infantry Battalion in Negros Occidental on Sunday, July 21.

Capt. Dan Carlo Samoza, civil-military operations (CMO) officer of the Army 79th IB, said that the surrenderers were active members of the dismantled Northern Negros Front (NNF)-D who were involved in a series of clashes with the military in Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City last February.
Three NPA rebels were killed and three soldiers and a militiaman were injured.
Samoza said that the surrenderers were in the armed struggle for 10 to 15 years. However, he refused to divulge more details about the identities of surrenderers for security reasons.
He said they are checking if they have offenses committed that would prevent them from availing of the government’s amnesty program.
Samoza said they are anticipating the surrender of more remnants of the NNF-D.
