Korean actor Yoon Shi-yoon revealed that he is in the Philippines to study English.
Yoon Shi-yoon (윤시윤), 36, is known for the sitcom “High Kick Through the Roof” and the dramas “King of Baking, Kim Takgu” and “Nokdu Flower.” He was a former cast member of the variety show “2 Days & 1 Night.”

The actor held a live broadcast on YouTube on July 20 in which he revealed that he has been living in the Philippines to study English.
“I'm currently in the Philippines. I study English during the day and I train hard at night to get in shape,” he said. .
According to him, "It's been about a month and I've lost about 4kg. I'm currently studying English diligently,” he said.
He added, “I started with the mindset that I'm learning English from the very basics. When you start learning English as an adult, there are many cases where you start at intermediate level because of embarrassment, and many people give up because it is too difficult or they hit a wall of reality.”
“So, with the mindset of starting from the beginning, I overcame my embarrassment and just started at beginner level of English.I'm practicing as hard as I can, even though I'm embarrassed like this, in order to start with verbs and practice how naturally I can use them while changing tenses,” he said.
Yoon Shi-yoon said he is studying English so he can confidently speak the language on shows or to foreigners.
“I dream of one day being able to speak English diligently, either on entertainment shows or to people overseas. I would like it if you could support me,” he said.
Many foreigners including Koreans come to the Philippines to study English.
“I came to the Philippines with a strong compulsion to do something during my break in Korea, so I didn't make any friends and actually spent about a month alone, so it was something. Right now, I feel like playing or spending my time like that is a luxury,” he said.
He added, “There are people who are just now working hard at English. I feel embarrassed and ashamed that I am starting out like this at such a late age. But the reason I am revealing everything to you like this is because I am doing my best to improve little by little. I want to show you how I'm growing, and I want to receive praise and support from you.”
Living in the Philippines
He said he’s been to the Philippines many times.
“I actually have a little confession to make about the Philippines. I'm sure there are some Filipino fans out there, but I've been to the Philippines a lot. If it wasn't for scuba diving, I'd come to take pictures,” he said.
For him, taking a vacation in the Philippines and staying in the country for a long time are different experiences.
“Here, I became friends with them and made good memories. As I did this, they all looked so different and I loved their smiles. Oh, they were so cool and pretty. There are a lot of things. When people look at you with the same level of interest and love, you seem to see many different sides,” he said.
Yoon Shi-yoon revealed his plans including going to church and to a shopping mall.
He revealed that he has been invited to a gender reveal party next Saturday in the Philippines.
“Actually, I've never done anything like that in Korea. I've never done that before, but it's the first time I've been invited to in the Philippines. It's also the first time I've been invited by a Filipino friend, so I'm attending the party next Saturday. I'm thinking of buying a gift now.

Mount Ulap
He held the YouTube live broadcast after returning from the hike of Mount Ulap in Itogon, Benguet.
Mount Ulap has an altitude of 1,846 meters above sea level and Yoon Shi-yoon wore a souvenir t-shirt with the statement “I survived Mt. Ulap.”
Yoon Shi-yoon said he has been spending time on his own to focus on studying English “but after about a month, I gathered up the courage and went hiking for the first time with my teachers and students.”
He showed his t-shirt and said, “It means Mount Ulap. This is almost like Daegwallyeong in Korea.” Daegwallyeong is a mountain pass in South Korea.
“The highlands are so beautiful and the weather is so good. So everyone, I recommend it for a trip to the Philippines. It's been a while since I went on a very enjoyable hike,” he said of Mount Ulap and showed photos of him taken there.

Return to Korea
Yoon Shi-yoon revealed his return to Korea.
“I'm going back to Korea in about a month and a half to a month or two, and I'm planning on getting a nice haircut when I get back. Well, until then, I think it would be nice to look cool and build up a bit of body, and with short hair, it would be nice to have a cool body and control body fat, and cut your hair short,” he said.
