Marcos appoints Mejia as JBC member


Malacañang announced the appointment of Jose V. Mejia, a law practitioner and law professor, as member representing the private sector of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) of the Supreme Court of the Philippines.

A post by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Saturday, July 20, showed Mejia taking his oath of office before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
 

According to the PCO, the new JBC member took oath on Friday, July 19.
 

A copy of his oath of office was made available to the media.
 

In it, Mejia took an oath to discharge his duties faithfully and to “support and defend the Constitution of the Philippines.”
 

He also swore to “bear true faith and allegiance to the same,” and that he would “obey the laws, legal orders and decrees promulgated by the duly constituted authorities of the Republic of the Philippines.”
 

Mejia was born in Polangui, Albay but hails from and grew up in Arayat, Pampanga.
 

He finished his AB Economics and Bachelor of Laws degrees at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1980 & 1985, respectively.
 

Mejia was a Senate staff of former senator Rene Saguisag and also worked as a law professor at the De La Salle University and a senior partner of the Ligon Solis Mejia Florendo Law firm.
