Also known as National Schools Maintenance Week, Brigada Eskwela (BE) is a nationwide activity usually conducted before the start of classes. It is a community-driven effort aimed at preparing public schools for the upcoming academic year.

This year’s BE is scheduled from July 22 to 27.

During the activity, Angara inquired about the school’s preparedness for the upcoming school year.

The opening of School Year (SY) 2024-2025 in public schools is on July 29.

Angara was joined by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, 2nd District Representative Ralph Tulfo, and Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairperson Don Artes.

Officials from the QC District 2 Council, Brgy. Commonwealth, MMDA, and DepEd-National Capital Region, as well as some teachers, students, and parents, joined Angara in his first Brigada as the DepEd Chief.

Anchored on the theme “Bayanihan para sa Matatag na Paaralan,” the BE encourages parents, teachers, students, and local communities to come together to clean, repair, and beautify schools.

The goal is to ensure that every public school starts the academic year with a well-maintained and conducive learning environment.

The National BE Kick-off Program, led by former DepEd Secretary and Vice President Sara Duterte, was held on July 17 at Carmen National High School in Cebu.
