“We will try our best to reopen to full capacity traffic in the first week of November,” said DPWH-6 Regional Director Sanny Boy Oropel on Tuesday, July 2.

The controversial flyover that was one of the last pet projects of former Ilonggo Sen. Franklin M. Drilon was closed to vehicular traffic in September 2022 weeks after it formally opened.

Cracks were found in the P680-million flyover that traverses Iloilo City and the neighboring town of Pavia. These defects were later attributed to unstable soil condition in the area.

Oropel told members of the Iloilo media that the first phase of the repair is 65 percent complete as of June 30. He added that the second phase of the repair will start once the first phase is completed.

The DPWH-6 reopened one lane of the flyover to light vehicles last September to ease traffic during rush hour.
