Philippines to remain cyclone-free for the next 2 to 3 days — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, July 2, said it has not monitored a tropical cyclone near or inside the country’s area of responsibility that may influence the weather conditions in the next two to three days.

Although the country is cyclone-free, the prevalence of the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and easterlies will result in cloudy and rainy weather in some areas, PAGASA Weather Specialist Rhea Torres said.

The ITCZ, a convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres where rain-bearing clouds form, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Zamboanga Peninsula and Palawan.

PAGASA warned that flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas due to moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, also known as “easterlies,” may cause partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will also be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Based on the PAGASA’s forecast for July 3, the likelihood of rainfall across select key cities is the following: Metro Manila (30 percent), Laoag City (10 percent), Baguio City (30 percent), Legazpi City (60 percent), Puerto Princesa City (40 percent), Metro Cebu (30 percent), Bacolod City (60 percent), Cagayan de Oro City (40 percent), Metro Davao (60 percent), and Zamboanga City (60 percent).
