‘Inside Out 2’ earns $39 million in June to top monthly box office in South Korea


Disney and Pixar’s global blockbuster “Inside Out 2” topped the monthly box office in June in South Korea. 

“Inside Out 2,” released on June 12, sold 5.63 million tickets and earned $39.18 million in June in South Korea to become the No. 1 film for the month, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), which tracks box office receipts. 

Its revenue share was 49.92 percent among all films screened in June in South Korea.

“Inside Out 2” stars Maya Hawke, Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, Kensington Tallman, Lilimar, Diane Lane, Kyle MacLachlan, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Grace Lu, Yvette Nicole Brown, Sarayu Blue, Flea, Ron Funches, Dave Goelz, James Austin Johnson, Bobby Moynihan, Frank Oz, Paula Pell, Paula Poundstone, John Ratzenberger, Kendall Coyne Schofield, June Squibb, Kirk Thatcher and Yong Yea. 

The Korean film “Hijack 1971,” released on June 21 starring ng Ha Jung-woo, Yeo Jin-goo, Sung Dong-il and Chae Soo-bin, came in second in the monthly box office with 1.08 million in total admissions and gross of $.7.44 million.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” released on May 22, placed third with 786,121 total admissions and $5.76 million in gross in June. This brought its total haul to 1.59 million in total admissions and gross of $11.84 million since its release. 

The Korean film “Wonderland,” starring Tang Wei, Bae Suzy, Park Bo-gum, Jung Yu-mi, and Choi Woo-shik, grabbed fourth place with 618,875 in total admissions and gross of $4.22 million.

“Handsome Guys," another Korean film, placed fifth with 458,635 in total admissions and gross of $3 million in June.
