'Deceitful advertising': Arroyo has nothing to do with eye product, says lawyer

The camp of Pampanga 2nd district Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has denied any links of the former president to a supposed cure for failing eyesight.

In a statement, Arroyo's legal counsel, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, acknowledged that an eye product has been making it appear that it is associated with the lady official.

"It has come to our attention that an advertisement for a cure for failing eyesight has been making the rounds of social media platforms making it appear that our client, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is strongly endorsing the efficacy of the same, and seeking orders from the general public," Topacio said.

"We vehemently deny any association of the former President with the said product, and we hereby warn the public against being taken in by such deceitful advertising," he noted.

"Mrs. Arroyo spends all her efforts in serving her constituents, the country and in quality time with her family and friends, and does not use the the prestige of her office or status to endorse the purchase of any product or service in whatever shape, manner or form," said the lawyer.

"We have formally written the director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate this matter and to see to it that perpetrators of this blatant fraud on the public will be brought to justice," Topacio said.

Arroyo, 77, was Philippine president from 2001 to 2010. She is also a former House Speaker.
