House Speaker Martin Romualdez has expressed confidence in Senator Sonny Angara's ability to raise the quality of the country’s education system.

"Congratulations, Secretary Angara. We are confident that we will make significant strides in uplifting our education system under your leadership," Romualdez said in a statement Tuesday, July 2, a few minutes after Angara was named the next Department of Education (DepEd) secretary.

Romualdez says the House welcomes Angara's appointment to the Marcos Cabinet.

"Senator Angara’s extensive experience, unwavering dedication, and exemplary public service make him an outstanding choice for this crucial role," said the Leyte 1st district congressman.

"Throughout his career, Senator Angara has demonstrated a profound commitment to enhancing our educational system and championing our students' and teachers' rights and welfare," he noted.

Romualdez said that Angara's impressive background, notable legislative work and education policy achievements "equip him with the expertise needed to lead the DepEd with excellence".

"The House of Representatives fully supports Secretary Angara in this new chapter. We are eager to collaborate with him to realize our vision of ensuring every Filipino child has access to quality education," he further said.

Angara will be replacing Vice President Sara Duterte. Duterte tendered her resignation as DepEd chief last June 19.
