With just a few days before the official opening of the 2024 Olympic Games, countries' delegates are heading to Paris to prepare for the much-awaited international sporting event. With the competition happening at the birthplace of fashion, fans from all over the world can expect to see their teams sporting uniforms crafted by esteemed fashion designers and noted fashion houses. These uniforms not only capture the players’ spirits but also reflect their home countries’ culture, stories, and national pride.
From heritage-imbued garbs to modern sportswear, below are some of the looks we can't wait to see at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Philippines
For the opening ceremony, Francis Libiran crafted piece that puts a focus on bravery and national pride as well as the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines. His “Sinag” barong features a striking sling that mimic an armor. The sling is tinted with the colors of the Philippine flag with embroidered sun rays in Pintados-inspired warrior patterns.
Mongolia
When Ulaanbaatar-based label Michel & Amazonka unveiled Team Mongolia’s uniform for the opening and closing ceremony, the look instantly went viral online because of its ornate design. The look is composed of embroidered vests, dresses, and accessories adorned with cultural motifs of Mongolia. The uniform was so intricate that it took 20 hours to complete each look.
USA
Since 2008, Ralph Lauren has been the proud outfitter of Team USA. Its reign continues at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The design house took inspiration from “the spirit of athletics, building a legacy rooted in sportsmanship and style.” For the opening ceremony, the team will be wearing classic pieces of the brand, which include a navy blazer, striped shirt, and denim jeans. Graphic sportswear with color-blocked designs will be the team’s look for the closing ceremony.
France
When it comes to show-stopping looks for the opening ceremony, trust that Team France will deliver. For the event, French maison Berluti collaborated with former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld in crafting ensembles in Royal Blue with lapels in ombré mirroring the French flag’s colors.
Czech Republic
Sportwear brand Alpine Pro will be dressing Team Czech Republic for the opening ceremony of the games. The uniform features a blue and white trench coat, a nod to the Czech “baloňák” coat. Created in collaboration with designer Jan Societe, the look is completed with a pair of trousers and polo shirts in the colors of the country’s flag.
Haiti
Team Haiti will be wearing the pieces of Italian designer Stella Jean for the opening ceremony. The uniform—composed of blazers, skirts, and trousers—also showcases the work of Haitian artist Philippe Dodard.
Australia
Australian brand Sportscraft has been designing pieces for Team Australia for a long time now. This year, the clothing label looks at the host country for inspiration. For the opening ceremony, Team Australia will be wearing a blazer embroidered with the Australian Olympians' Oath inside the pocket and a t-shirt with gold and green designs. Male athletes will be pairing the look with knee-length shorts, while the ladies have the option to wear beige shorts or pleated skirt.
Spain
Team Spain will bring the heat to the opening ceremony with their Joma Sport ensembles. They will wear a red single-breasted blazer with the team’s official Olympic patch and a button-up shirt. To complete the look, male athletes will wear cream-colored trousers, and pleated skirts in red, yellow, orange, and white ombré for the ladies.
Ireland
For the opening ceremony, Team Ireland will be outfitted by Irish clothing brand LW Pearl. Designed by Laura Weber, the look plays with “a balance between tradition and contemporary trends.” It features double-breasted jackets adorned with the country’s emblem on the sleeves. Male athletes will wear it with jogger-style pants and cigarette-cut trousers for its female delegates.
The 2024 Paris Olympics’ opening ceremony is set to be a historic one as it will be the first time for the Olympic Summer Games to have an opening parade outside a stadium. It will take place on July 26, 2024 with the athletes cruising the Seine River.
