DICT 'vigilantly' monitors ongoing worldwide software outage


The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Friday, July 19, said that its Cybersecurity Bureau and the National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) are vigilantly monitoring the ongoing software outage allegedly caused by a faulty update from a cybersecurity provider.

"This outage is affecting companies globally, including those in the Philippines, that use the said cybersecurity product," DICT said in a statement.

"We assure the public that the Department does not use the same cybersecurity service provider and that no DICT systems or assets have been affected," it added.

This statement is related to the widespread Microsoft outage on Friday, which caused major disruptions, impacting flights, banks, media outlets, and businesses worldwide.

In a social media post, Cebu Pacific advised its passengers that it is currently experiencing technical issues, reportedly related to its technology provider "CrowdStrike."

"The technical issue requires us to handle affected processes manually, potentially causing delays," it said

"We are working closely with our teams to mitigate disruptions to our operations and will provide regular updates as the situation progresses," it added.

Various banks, including BPI, Metrobank, and UnionBank, have also issued public advisories regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the DICT assured the public that it would "continuously communicate with relevant stakeholders to obtain detailed information and assess the full impact of this incident."
