The Premier Volleyball League expressed its support to the country’s participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics by having players from Choco Mucho and Cignal wear special shirts during warmups for their match in the Reinforced Conference Thursday, July 18, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Each shirt bore names of Filipino athletes who will be competing in the sports’ grandest spectacle happening next week in the French capital.
“This is our way of showing our unwavering support for our athletes,” said PVL President Ricky Palou.
“We believe in their talent and determination, and we hope our small gesture inspires them to perform their best in these Olympics,” he added.
Twenty-two athletes led by Tokyo Olympics medalists Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam and Eumir Marcial are seeing action in Paris as they hope to eclipse the country’s most productive performance in history of one gold, two silver and one bronze medal three years ago.
Also competing are pole vaulter EJ Obiena, hurdlers Lauren Hoffman and John Cabang, golfers Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina, boxers Aira Villegas and Hergie Bacyadan, gymnasts Carlos Yulo, Aleah Finnegan, Levi Ruivivar and Emma Malabuyo, fencer Samantha Catantan, rower Joanie Delgaco, and weightlifter Elreen Ando, Vanessa Sarno and John Ceniza.
