In preparation for the observance of National Adolescent Immunization Month in August, the local government of Pasig City will launch the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination for female Pasigueños aged nine to 14 years old on Thursday, July 25.
The local government is calling on parents who wish to register their female children for the vaccination to coordinate with the nearest barangay health center in their area.
The vaccination will be led by the City Health Department and will be officially launched on Thursday at Pinagbuhatan High School from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
At the same time, a simultaneous screening and HPV vaccination at the following 15 barangay health centers in the city will also be conducted:
For District 1: Sumilang Super Health Center, San Joaquin Super Health Center, Caniogan Health Center, San Miguel Health Center, Pineda Health Center, and Bagong Ilog Health Centers 1 and 2.
For District 2: Manggahan Super Health Center, Nagpayong Super Health Center, Santolan Super Health Center, Rosario Super Health Center, Napico Health Center, Maybunga Health Center, Maybunga Floodway Health Center, and Karangalan Health Center.
The HPV is a virus that can cause various types of cancer such as cervical cancer and genital warts. Cervical cancer is the only cancer that can be contracted through unprotected sexual intercourse.
It added that the HPV vaccine provides protection against these diseases. It is usually recommended for young people aged nine to 14 years old before they become sexually active, as it is more effective before exposure to the virus.
The program is made possible through the collaboration of the City Government of Pasig, the Sangguniang Kabataan of Pinagbuhatan, and MSD Philippines.
