Iloilo mega dam operational by 2025


ILOILO CITY – The National Irrigation Administration is targeting that its flagship mega dam project in Iloilo province inaugurated this week will be operational by 2025.

The P19.7-billion Jalaur River Multipurpose Project Stage II (JRMP-II) in Calinog town has an overall accomplishment rate of 75.51 percent.

The construction of the three dams and reservoirs have been completed.

NIA-6 Regional Manager Engr. Jonel Borres, project manager, said works for the irrigation component are still being completed.

South Korean contractor Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. Ltd. still has to complete the construction for the highline and lateral canals.

The JRMP-II will benefit 25,000 farmers by irrigating 31,840 hectares of farmland in Iloilo.

The dam is projected to increase rice production by more than 71 percent from 197,545 metric tons per year to 338,874.

The JRMP-II has turbines for hydroelectric power as well as a flood control component.
