Gov't undertaking more infra projects to boost Mimaropa economy

President Marcos has assured the people of Mimaropa that his administration is undertaking more key infrastructure projects to boost the region's economy.

Speaking at the distribution of financial aid in Palawan on Thursday, July 18, the President said the government is not just keen on providing social services but it also wants to ensure infrastructure programs are implemented in the region.

"Higit pa sa mga tulong at serbisyong ito, kami po ay patuloy na kumikilos upang palakasin ang ekonomiya ng rehiyon ng Mimaropa (More than the assistance and services, we are continuously working on strengthening the region's economy)," he said.

Among the administration's priority projects in the region are the Ibato-Iraan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project in Aborlan (dam component at 95.15 percent completion rate) and the road widening of the Dr. Damian Reyes Road in Marinduque with 45.45 percent completion rate.

According to Marcos, the Balabac Military Runway is nearing completion at 89.30 percent.

The Chief Executive said the other priority infrastructure projects aim to open the region to new investments, ease transportation, and strengthen the tourism sector.

“Ito'y gagawin natin sa pamamagitan ng (We are implementing this through the) Puerto Princesa Airport Development Project at Pag-asa Island Airport Development Project” he said.

President Marcos said there are ongoing negotiations with the private proponent on the planned Puerto Princesa Airport Development Project to improve airport facilities and services.

For the Pag-asa Island Airport Development Project, Marcos said land procurement for the runway extension is underway. Once completed, the project is expected to provide an efficient mode of travel to and from the island.

Pag-asa Island is considered a Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area.
