Extreme monsoon rain swamps Zamboanga City on July 12, says PAGASA

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration official here described the monsoon rain last July 12 which inundated several barangays here as an “extreme weather condition.”

In a press briefing at the Zamboanga City Hall on Wednesday, July 17, PAGASA Zamboanga officer-in-charge Rodel Inclan said the amount of rainfall on July 12 was 170 millimeters, 20mm more than 150mm, the amount of rainfall regularly recorded for the whole month of July.
The figure also broke the record for the biggest volume of rainfall here for the month of July in history. The biggest volume of rainfall recorded before was 140mm in July 1940.
Inclan said the above average volume of rainfall is a sign of the impending arrival of the La Niña phenomenon which is expected here in August.
Inclan advised residents to prepare for the arrival of La Niña.
